Wonderful to take part in two recent 'study tours' of peatland restoration sites in the East Anglian Fens and Somerset Levels. Many thanks to The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants, @somersetwt and our other generous hosts for sharing your #peat #restoration insights with the Peatscapes team!

Wonderful to contribute our paper "Counting on Peatlands: contingencies of carbon accounting in peatland restoration" at #POLLEN24! Roosa Rytkönen calls attention to the complex temporalities of peat restoration, speaking in a panel on carbon removal, net zero and climate delay!

Such a great fieldtrip with Roosa Rytkönen! I've followed Ess-soo resistance for two decades, since working for EestimaaLooduseFond. It's fantastic to see the beginning of healing and recovery!

This week, Roosa Rytkönen is attending #SERE2024 with lots of exciting panels and fieldtrips to peatland restoration projects in Estonia. Including here Kuresoo and #Lavassaare - one of our Peatscapes case study sites. Many thanks to SER Europe for such an amazing programme!

Another fantastic #SERE2024 trip to peat restoration sites in Estonia. This time to Soosaare bog in Alam-Pedja reserve, to see initial outcomes in both extracted & forested areas, 6 years after rewetting. Thanks to Jüri-Ott Salm EestimaaLooduseFond & Elin Soomets University of Tartu for a great tour!

The intense week of #SERE2024 in Estonia ended with a practical crash course by Wetlands International about lagg/transition zone restoration in bogs. What a great way to learn about different methods & data through group work, and study the outcomes of restoration work in Tudusoo mires!

Delighted to announce the launch of our shiny new project website: peatscapes.com A one-stop shop for everything 'Peatscapes' – including further info on our excellent team (@GeogBristol & Geography Birmingham), insights from fieldwork, and links to conference papers and outputs!

Another exciting fieldtrip to Tudusoo and Laukasoo bogs, restored by LIFE Programme Mires of Estonia in 2015-2021. Very interesting excursions and lectures by EestimaaLooduseFond to learn about the complex design, long-term monitoring, and public understanding of peat restoration projects!

Check out this recent Peatscapes blogpost on carbon futures for lowland peat, written by our Research Associate Aneurin Merrill-Glover. Part of the fabulous 'Seeing the Woods' blog, hosted by Rachel Carson Center! cc. The Leverhulme Trust

This week we're delighted to be joined by Dr Kärg Kama & Dr James Palmer who will be presenting their new project 'Peatscapes in transition: knowledge controversies in European peatland restoration' 🗓️ 06/02 ⏰ 2pm 📍SoGE, University of Oxford All welcome!
