Humza Yousaf has resigned as first minister. He'll stand down as SNP leader and a leadership contest will be called. He'll stay on until the successor is in place.

John Swinney was just asked at a Resolution foundation event if he would like to be First Minister (Humza Yousaf is quitting):

'It's a hypothetical question.'

'It's a very demanding role.'

'It takes a lot of thinking about'.

Good morning. Douglas Ross MP MSP has lodged his motion of no confidence in Humza Yousaf.

So far it has the support of 32 MSPs - it needed 25 to go forward for a debate. Mostly Conservatives, but a couple of Labour MSPs in there too.
