Excited to announce our Nature Reviews Earth & Environment 🌈 review synthesizing plant responses to fewer, larger rain events across field studies, models, and satellites. We focus on plant responses and mechanisms in the context of the contrasting behavior between dry and wet ecosystems.

Today in nature, Wilkes Center for Climate Science & Policy Director William Anderegg and his colleagues called on the trustees of Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to rescind their decision allowing #carbonoffsets for business' indirect #scope3 fossil-fuel emissions. nature.com/articles/d4158…

Drylands in the western United States are currently in the grips of a 23-year “megadrought,” and WVU Mountaineers · Let's Go! researcher Steve Kannenberg is working to gain a better understanding of this extreme climate event. Read more about his study: bit.ly/3Ws22ge

📢📢 #Dryland folks attending #AGU24, please consider submitting an abstract to our session: "B059 - Intersections of Ecology, Hydrology, and Climatology in Earth’s Drylands" w/ @MPDannenberg Dr. Mallory Barnes Miriam Johnston Andrew Feldman Sasha Reed agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/prel…

Are you thinking about #AGU24 in DC this year? Do you study plant-microbe-soil interactions? Please consider submitting to session B097!! Caitlin Hicks Pries Rich Phillips agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/prel…

New #SpectralEcophysiology paper: “Hyperspectral signals in the soil: Plant–soil hydraulic connection and disequilibrium as mechanisms of drought tolerance and rapid recovery”, from Yangyang Song’s postdoc in my lab, w/ Gerard Sapes, Alina Zare, et al.: doi.org/10.1111/pce.15…

I provide some context to the nice recent vegetation water content (via VOD) paper(s) by Yitong.YAO Christian Frankenberg Vincent Humphrey and others. I am super excited to see so much use of satellite vegetation optical depth (VOD), which has really taken off recently agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20…

New paper in Global Change Biology Eastern US forests are shifting to more mesic species and the climate is expected to get drier. The two combined indicate drought will have a bigger impact in the carbon budget in the future. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/gc…
