Effa Manley negotiated on behalf of the Eagles. And then used her portion of the proceeds to buy herself a mink coat. 30 years later, she was still rocking it at the Negro Leagues reunion. My fictionalized account is in my novel #InALeagueOfHerOwn.

OTD - July 5, 1947 - Larry Doby became the first Black player in the American League. Despite the daily impacts of racism, Doby went on to be the first Black player to hit a home run in the World Series en route to his Hall of Fame career. He deserves to be celebrated @mlb
