And a German anecdote: Vor 10 Jahren saß ein Senior-Student (Ägyptologe) mit mir in Martin Peters' Vorlesung zum uridg. Verb, in der Peters wie selbstverständlich von "Narten-Präsentien" sprach. Der verwirrte Ägyptologe hob die Hand und fragte: "Was genau ist bitte eine Narte?"

The example of MP w > (dial.) NP gʷ, mentioned in Orientalist circles, as by Filippone, in a hapax of Sanā'ī: gʷ(a)hišt for bihišt 'heaven', is a misreading. No such hapax exists. The sound-change w > gʷ is real but rarely occurs in literature, many are at best dictionary words.

Naṣrallāh Munshī, the famèd „Übertrager“ of the Kalīla wa Dimna into Persian ~540 A.H./1146 A.D. puns on šēr ('lion') & šīr ('faucet'). So we can assume that the folk etymology of šīr ('faucet') as coming from European-style taps toting lions is false. So whence does it come?

An interesting Latin praenomen: Clufennius. Plausibly to be interpreted as from *ḱlu-dʰh₁-dn-, a compound meaning ~ 'rich in renown/fame (klewos).' Cf. for the structure *mn̥s-dʰh₁- >> Av. mazdā, ii) *m̥ǵh₂-dʰh₁-ós (another Bahuvrihi) >> Grk. ἀγαθός
