We're so excited our African sf special issue is out @ #ScienceFictionStudies! Co-editors Gibson Ncube, Ezeiyoke Chukwunonso, Ruth Wenske, I, &the authors think about how to understand African science & speculative fiction in the context of global sf. Let me introduce: muse.jhu.edu/issue/53295

Ruth Wenske suggests the concept of “non-human near-omniscience”, to describe narrators with super-human knowledge. Reading Nnedi Okorafor, PhD🕷️'s Lagoon, she shows how these narrators draw on African animist traditions characterized by relationality more than by absolute power.

Keren Omry develops the concept of “allotropic temporality” to describe how African sf resists the binaries of utopia and dystopia. She draws on works by Namwali, Tlotlo Tsamaase, and Yvette Lisa Ndlovu (Publishing Updates Only).
