Check out this opportunity to learn more about applying for prestigious postdoctoral fellowships! And if you haven't met her yet, Dr. Elisabeth Yang is awesome.

I recently launched two community-focused offerings (theeditorialally.com/community), designed to support authors in these hard times. I couldn't have rolled out the services as quickly or as well without web designer Fresh Web Design. Hiring an expert really can make life a lot easier!

I recently reviewed an article for an academic journal. It reminded me that not everyone understands the difference between developmental editing & peer review, each of which serves a separate function in the evolution of a manuscript. Learn more here: open.substack.com/pub/theeditori…

Academic Authors Spring Break PSA It's okay to spend spring break resting in addition to, or instead of, writing. The manuscript will get done. Prioritize your health (mental & physical) bc if you crash then no writing (or any of the more important things in your life) gets done.

A number of authors in my circle have recently taken on significant personal responsibilities, adjusting to a new baby or caring for aging relatives. In today's TEA Delivered, I reflect on what it means to keep writing when your world feels upside down. open.substack.com/pub/theeditori…

A friend and busy academic told me that he writes every day not primarily for productivity but rather to "quiet the whirling snow globe of his mind." The publications that result are the secondary goal. What other benefits might your writing provide? Those benefits are real, too.

It's easy (and exciting) to focus on the big ideas in the book proposal at the expense of the basics, but acquisitions editors also need the who, what, where, and when of the project. Learn more in today's TEA Delivered. open.substack.com/pub/theeditori…

Many thanks to Beth Hundt for a thoughtful review of "Building Schools, Making Doctors." Academic authors, notice that I published my monograph in May 2022. Journals are still publishing reviews of the book. Academia is a slow burn. Have patience! doi.org/10.5325/nursin…

We've hit the frantic point in the semester. Now can be a great time to get developmental editing on your manuscript (the project keeps moving forward while you focus on other tasks). If you want to work with me, reach out. I have limited availability (~2 projects) for May/June.
