When we say it’s all about the kids, just remember the kids learn in an environment created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, encouraged and appreciated will create a more positive and dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not supported that way.

We have to teach this to our kiddos as early and as often as possible.

This! All day. The campus culture can make or break a school. We have to do better at treating our teachers like the champions we tell them that students deserve. If we want them to be champions, we have to treat them like champions.

As an administrator, I was fortunate enough to figure out that leadership isn't always about evaluating, giving feedback, or critiquing. Sometimes, it's about offering words of encouragement or praise, and other times, it's about saying nothing at all and simply being present.

I hope I did all these things this year!

This is the kind of leader that I am working on being.

Leaders don't have to remember what it was like to be a teacher if they spend enough time in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, bus line, and more. Compassion is about being present and engaged where it matters most.
