Music Education has such a positive impact on the lives and learning of so many people, regardless of what they go on to do in life. We need to value Music Education, we need to fill our schools with music, and we need to give every young person the best possible chance to shine.

If we want young people to receive the best education they possibly can, then music and the performing arts have to be part of it, all of the time, no questions asked.

Music provides me with something that nothing else can.

When the development of a young person is infused with music-making, every aspect of their development is strengthened - their academic development, social development, personal development, and emotional development. Music helps young people develop in the most wonderful way.

Making music enhances so many things. It enhances our quality of life. It enhances how we learn. It enhances the quality of our relationships. It enhances our mental health. It enhances our communities and the time we spend together. We make music because it makes life better.

For many young people, it’s learning music and being in music ensembles that unleashes their confidence and potential, which in turn helps them to go on and be successful in whatever field they choose. The benefits of music can be found everywhere.

There are many young people who simply can’t wait to get to the Music Department tomorrow. There are so many reasons for this, and they’re all vitally important. The music, the friends, the sense of belonging, and the comfort it provides. We need to fill our schools with music.

The more I see the impact of music on young people, the more it’s undeniably apparent that we need more music in our schools. Not just for their learning, or their health and wellbeing, or their sense of belonging, but for the impact it has on the future of the world around us.
