Labels are no longer in the business of developing artists from 0 to 100. It's expensive, and they don't have the patience or ability to do it. Artists must develop themselves to about 60, and then a label partner can throw gasoline (money, media, etc...) on the fire.

..unpopular opinion: I agree with this new approach. The music business has evolved. Artists now have access to recording equipment, self-distro platforms, social media etc. There’s absolutely no reason to waste resources on artist development in today’s music landscape.

When an album underperforms, fans love to blame the label. But labels need finished products and assets—like artwork and photos—before they can do their job. Too often, release week turns into a fire drill, with the artist turning in their music on release day.

Are many marketing campaigns ill-conceived? Yeah. Is it absurd to ask a marketing department to create a high-level digital campaign without proper lead time, a product description, new photos, a material preview, and confirmed metadata? Also yes.

Would a movie studio release a film to theaters or even streaming services the same day they finish the final edits? That is essentially what is happening right now in music. It's insane.
