Two new papers out in Health Affairs and American Journal of Health Economics @ashecon, both concerning self-funded employer-sponsored insurance (ESI).

Self-funded ESI plans are where employers bear the risk (not insurers) and are exempt from state regulations by #ERISA .

Some researchers have very dramatic findings in this space — a newish one from Florian Ederer finds a huge deleterious impact from common ownership.
