No one played bass like Phil Lesh. His sense of melody, pacing, and counterpoint was so singular and so brilliant sometimes it felt like even Jerry was just trying to keep up. Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there 🥀

The amount of joy and beauty that Phil manifested is unfathomable. He was both the bedrock of the Grateful Dead and the one who pushed them deepest into space. One of the most radical sonic explorers of the past century, hands down.

If only there was some band with a catalog saturated with poetic meditations on living and dying that could ease us through the passing of Phil Lesh
