Chief Sloly: “we can’t possibly block every avenue into downtown core.” Literally every Canada Day: “All vehicles are banned from downtown. Foot traffic only”

Being on the ground here in Ottawa and watching the occupation unfold, I’m stunned by how multiple public policy failures around regulating tech have come together to contribute to this mess. These include:

just so we are clear. When a province ends a vaccine or mask mandate, it is reversing the onus on the vaxxed vulnerable. It is then they who can't go places and have their freedom restricted because of the risk of mixing with the unvaxxed.

There must be a word for feeling humiliated, bewildered, disappointed, demoralized, flabbergasted, incredulous, scared, disgusted despondent & livid all at the same time. That about captures the complicated ways #Ottawa residents have responded to the last 15 days of occupation.

The Court extended the Horn Injunction in Ottawa for 60 days, with additional terms prohibiting anyone from inciting, counselling or encouraging others to breach the Order. Also all named Defendants must communicate the Order to the truckers. RT Ottawa!! truckerrelease.ca/order2.pdf

The #HoC will not sit today, Friday, February 18. A police operation is expected in the downtown core of Ottawa. Given these exceptional circumstances, and following discussion with all recognized party leadership, the sitting today is cancelled. ow.ly/wJg850HYvP6

Beyond disrespectful to see one of these “protestors” holding an “every child matters” flag while pushing children to the front lines.

Hello, Ottawa. Earlier today, many of us saw tweets about a situation at the Rideau Centre. Recently, we learned the police operation is now over (though the investigation is ongoing). While this is indeed welcome news, we'd like to take a moment to address something. (1/4)

You don’t need a “voting card” to vote on Monday. Just bring a piece of ID with your address on it, and you will be able to vote for Mayor, City Councillor and School Board Trustee. Find out where you vote here: elections.ottawa.ca/UI/VotingLocat… #Ottvote #Ottawa #Ottnews #Ottpoli
