Wonderful to see the Jacobson family gather on Hall of Fame night. Joel was a great man and a great friend. He'd wonder what the fuss was about.

If, and it is a huge if, Shohei Ohtani picks Toronto it would be an incredible press conference. If the offers around the league are similar, what clinched it?

I'll add my voice to those mourning Rick Howe today. I was a guest many times and always found him engaged in whatever the subject matter.

RIP Chris Simon. Ex-Citadel. Practical joker. Once took a teammate’s ring and jammed it in a bar of soap. When the teammate panicked that it was stolen, Simon told him to go take a shower and the rest of the team would find it. Bar of soap soon came flying across the room.

Tip of the old sportswriter cap to Paul Flemming, Peter Burgess, Kris Granchelli and Marty Gavin. World senior men's curling champs. First time for a N.S. men's team.

Wishing Rick Bowness a happy retirement and great days on the golf course. He returned phone calls on good days and bad. Always wanted to know the latest in Nova Scotia. Cheers on a great career.

I can remember when Kennetcook boxer Wyatt Sanford, still a teenager, had to relocate to Montreal just for a chance to become an Olympian. Now in his second Games, he's a win away from a medal.

Teams from the same province have played for the Vanier Cup, but never two from Quebec. Bishop’s (AUS winner) and Laval in the final 4 this year.

RIP Al MacNeil. Proud son of Cape Breton played 500 NHL games, won 4 Stanley Cups as a coach/manager and took the Nova Scotia Vees to 3 Calder Cups. Hockey man.

Remembering Axemen point guard Steve Pound today. At a time when university sport held a higher profile, there were no brighter stars. A fine gentleman on top of all that. RIP.
