Wassup y’all, my first manuscript from the Aoto Lab is out! Despite being discovered over 30 years ago, α-Nrxn influence on synapses remain enigmatic. Here, we investigate how different mutations in Nrx3α affects synaptic properties. Check out this study— jneurosci.org/content/44/41/…

It’s an incredible feeling to see something you’ve poured your heart into come to life. I’m so proud of this work, born from my curiosity about hippocampal “cognitive tuning.” Our environment reflects our actions, evolving as we pursue our goals.

Nonpartisan factoid: 60% indirect cost on an NIH grant means 37.5% overhead, not 60%. 0.6 / 1.6 = 0.375. How much is necessary? Above my pay grade and will vary between institutions. But the misperception highlighted above is hurting potentially constructive dialogue.

Our new paper is out in Science. What is the synaptic plasticity rule in the brain, we asked. It turns out there are multiple, even within individual neurons. Congrats Jake! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
