Some advice to 1st yr grad students who are finalizing decisions on which curriculums and labs to join: Do NOT join a dept where decisions/policies are made w/o student input Join a lab based on the environment >> the science. Choose a mentor with values that align wt yours

*Trigger warning* Yesterday marked a year since my uncle completed suicide and although we weren’t super close, it definitely affected me more than I realized. When you think about someone, don’t hesitate, just check on them whether it’s a text, DM, or phone call. Just do it.

The number of issues getting a PhD gave me is crazy. I want a refund for all my therapy & psychiatric appts. Actually, that still wouldn’t be enough. Depression is ongoing. It’s the anniversary of my grandma’s passing. Let me go find a hole to hide in. #AcademicChatter #phdlife

If you apply to a program that rewards efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion, and you're struggling to answer the sections about your understanding/contributions to those topics, you might want to re-think whether you should be applying for that program. Tired of this.
