Recently I had another teaching assignment. At the Media University in Berlin I gave an 8 day Icon spell workshop. @iconspell

It was a pleasure to work with this group, which was the most international I have ever worked with at universities, with Bulgarian, German, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Thai and Vietnamese as mother tongues. @iconspell

I brought with me the experiences and results of the first workshop participants and students to discuss and to develop further. And I brought some exciting books about signs and visual languages! @IconSpell

We all enjoed the warming phase that included the translation of compound words like lifecycle and time-table. Results were translated back and forth into icons and language following the chinese wisper principle. We also analysed the applied strategies. @IconSpell

In a later stadium the studens gave eachother sentences to translate like »We are all equal« @iconspell

What the students especially liked was to come up with their own short stories … @iconspell

… and to conduct dialogues. For both I gave them topics like »You have a conflict. What kind, how do you clarify it« or »a little adventure«. And I didn't allow them to talk or to use mimic or gestures! @iconspell

The individual works of the second phase were pleasing across the board. @IconSpell

Jeremy developped signs for 9 different kinds of freedom @IconSpell

Eric translated the basic informations given on the instruction leaflet of Ibubeta 400 akut. Meanwhile I sent this to my fellow Symbol Group members Mandar Rane and Dr. Shuhan He 🫀🫁 and they both will have students develop this further … @IconSpell

Cristina translated hilarious catchphrases from supermarket leaflets @IconSpell

Pauline translated Berlin tube stations @IconSpell

Christian translated the German constitution @IconSpell

With their comic about an alien that speaks only icons Ivelina and Elena definitely reached the meta level :-D while Sofia transfered a classic novel into symbols. @IconSpell

Letizia developped a game in which you make the other players guess song titles in Icon spell and Leon developed an Icon spell card game. @IconSpell

Margaux, Lana and Sam plastered the city with encouraging messages for people suffering from the hardships of Berlin winter. @IconSpell

Suni's book »silence isn't consent« has two directions of reading, one starting with Icon spell messages and the other with the same messages in English. @IconSpell

And I was delighted to see how some of the students styled themselves over time to match the theme! @IconSpell
