Socilization is closely tied to living standards. It's beyond income. What is called greed here is a high marginal propensity to consume (MPC). It is why people who were originally poor tend to overspend when they earn more.

Jamaica is mostly ranked as a middle income country because the data is skewed by the magnitude of the wealth of the top earning group. Unlike the US or UK, the average Jamaican is not in the middle class, but poor or working class. We also have a small social safety net.

The reason the Jamaica's private sector is small is because the middle cass is small and not growing by much, if at all. Most Jamaicans being working class or poor also explains why some business models fail so easily even though they are needed.
