Just seen the most exciting Ring cycle at Covent Garden in over 50 years of opera going. All the roles were really well sung, and I think these performances will become legendary.

Thank you #WoundsUK 2018 for inviting me to present on the management of unhealed surgical wounds in the community and thanks to all who participated in the Q and A afterwards.

New study published in BMJ_Open describes patterns of care, and costs and outcomes associated with managing unhealed surgical wounds in clinical practice in the UK. Hope this helps to improve wound care. #woundcare #nationalwoundcare

Am pleased to announce that our new study estimating the burden of #wounds to the UK's #NHS in 2017/18 will soon be published in BMJ Open. This study provides updated estimates and reviews the changes in #woundcare since 2012/13.

The 2017/2018 burden of #wounds study was published today in #BMJ_Open. The #NHS was estimated to manage 3.8 million patients with a #wound in 2017/2018 (71% increase since 2012/2013). The #NHS cost of #woundmanagement was £8.3 billion (48% increase in real terms over 5 years).

Thanks to Molnlycke for inviting me to participate in last night's debate on the growing health economic burden of wounds in the UK. We all need to work together to find solutions to reverse this trend. Mölnlycke Health Care Mölnlycke UK

The @NHS managed 202,000 pressure ulcers in 2017/18 costing £572 million. 60% of ulcers healed. The unhealed ulcers (40%) accounted for 84% of the annual cost (£481.5 mullion). Improving the healing rate is key to freeing-up resources and reducing costs. #BMJ_Open 2020 #EPUAP

Thanks Wounds UK for inviting me to present the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on VLUs. Our study found a >50% reduction in number of face-to-face clinician visits during the pandemic which undoubtedly led to lower VLU healing rates and increased risk of amputation. #woundsuk22

The pandemic had a deleterious impact on the health of patients with a VLU which is still being experienced in many parts of the country. Our evidence makes a compelling case for prioritising efforts that address the needs of these patients. #WeAreWounds #WoundsUK Wounds UK

(1/2) The study assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on venous leg ulcer management by the UK’s health services was recently published in BMJ Open. It can be accessed at: bmjopen.bmj.com/content/bmjope… #wounds #COVID19

(2/2) The study identified decreasing care for patients with a venous leg ulcer during 2020 and 2021, which was outside the boundaries considered to be good care. This led to poorer outcomes including an increased risk of amputation.

The Burden of Wounds study estimated that the NHS managed 2.2 million patients with a wound during 2012/2013 at a cost of ~£5 billion. This is to be debated in the House of Lords. Hopefully this will escalate the priority afforded to wound care. What are your thoughts? #wounds
