Evaluating research is hard. Kimberly Quinn @kimberlyquinn.bsky.social, simine vazire, and I developed a tool (seaboat.io) to help reviewers identify threats to the validity of empirical research with the help of 50+ experts. Here’s our preprint introducing it! [1/7] psyarxiv.com/fc8v3

Why does Coca-Cola sponsor research on obesity? Why did BP introduce the personal carbon footprint calculator? In our new working paper, we offer an explanation: emphasizing individual action shifts whom people hold responsible for solving the problem. osf.io/z2vwb/

As a statistician, it is extremely frustrating to me to see an account called “World of Statistics” with over 1.5M followers spreading this pseudoscientific garbage. Statistics requires us to think critically about our data. This is *not* statistics.

It’s the 10 year anniversary of the Center for Open Science 🎉 I take COS for granted, bc of course there is a COS and of course it’s insanely successful at bringing about change. But it was never a given, and we are so lucky we live in this world and not the world without COS.

Today I learned the correlation between a change score and baseline has no substantive meaning. It's just a statistical artifact (Clifton & Clifton, 2019; doi.org/10.1186/s13063…)

Please write APS at [email protected] and nominate Simine Vazire and Chris Chambers for Chief Editor of Psychological Science. We should try and support open-science supportive editors for such roles. Maybe, just maybe, if enough people write in...

My textbook now includes an updated figure from Carter & McCullough, 2014. It's now generated from the raw data. It's a striking image. The uncorrected effect size is d = 0.62 based on 198 studies. Now, large replications later, we know the true effect size is 0. What a waste.

🧠🧵 In the field of psychology, measurement is essential for understanding human behavior. But are we measuring the right things? A partial, most definitely biased overview of recent contributions worth knowing about
