Over June 2023 Frank & I revisited 460 buildings & sites🏚️

Here is what we discovered:

78% of the 460 buildings/sites are still derelict after 3 years

7.6% are back in use as either homes or businesses

2.9% have been brought back into a usable state but are currently vacant (fully or partially)

11.5% are under active construction as either refurbishments or new builds

The Most Sustainable Building Is The Existing One

Yet 11% of the 460 derelict buildings were demolished

This loss of embodied carbon, along with the loss our unique heritage materials and streetscape is rarely justified

At this rate of redevelopment, it'll take 40 years to bring all 460 properties back into use

Over last 3 yrs many more properties have entered into dereliction, either through long-term vacancy or lack of maintenance
