I've had a fantastic few days at the British Society for the History of Science annual conference. What better place than Prifysgol Aberystwyth to deliver a paper on Aberystwyth's role in the disciplinary mythology of IR, with all the ties to empire it obscures? Thanks to the organisers for putting it all together!

Lancaster University did similar in the 1980s, cutting all programmes in Arabic Studies and Russian and Soviet Studies, among others. This proved to be a short-sighted decision that hit the University hard when the demand for Arabic and Russian experts exploded a few years later
