Amazing how you can see the orographic lift and subsequent precipitation along the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains, as #HILARY makes its way across Southern California. You don't really see that with tropical cyclones in the Western Atlantic!

Great move by the AMS! While some of us might have journal access through our current institution, it's important to make our publications easier to access regardless of someone's employment and/or financial status. This is a step in the right direction. Thank you, American Meteorological Society!
