Join me in hearing Lis Norcliffe talk about her newest paper with Asifa Majid in Language on verbs of perception! It’s a terrific paper on how the lexical typology of perception verbs is shaped by conceptual and communicative constraints. Sure to be a great discussion!

Congratulations to our colleague and friend Hans Kamp for this award! Hans has been a Visiting Professor at UT every Spring since 2009, and working closely with him has been a highlight of my career. I am delighted to see his seminal work on discourse recognized in this way!

I have to do cybersecurity training. I have an idea: UT should send out a mass email with the subject line 'CHECK THIS OUT!!1!' and the body is a long, ugly-ass link. If you click it it takes you to the training and it becomes mandatory. If you don't, you don't have to do it.

My book with Jason Stanley, the Politics of Language, is out today! It's about how people make meaning, about how meaning resonates, and how we hide meaning in plain sight. We 'hustle'. Our hidden meanings hustle our friends towards us, and our enemies away.

Back at UT at last, but it was an honor to spend three weeks at University of Rochester Department of Linguistics as the first Ivan A. Sag Fellow! What a fantastic group of faculty and grad students they have! For anyone interested, here're the handouts and recordings for the Sag Lectures. sas.rochester.edu/cls/sag/curren…
