'Misty Morning, River Thurne, Norfolk,' (c1960) is a striking example of Edward Seago's mastery of watercolour, a work in which you can sense the magic of being on the river just after the break of dawn - a sense of timelessness.

Three worlds, one breathtaking moment. This picture of Moon and Jupiter above the Earth's horizon was taken from the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

From around 1900 onwards, the Belgian artist Firmin Baes worked almost exclusively in pastels on canvas, rather than paper; he used a similar technique to Degas, crushing pastel sticks and mixing the pigment with water and gum arabic to make a paint that he applied with a brush.
