At GI cancer conf. in the US, meeting with colleagues from around the world. Hard not to be despondent about the very limited access to molecular testing in Australia. We are quickly falling behind the RoW and patients are missing out

Today is World GIST Day. It's vital we take time to acknowledge the many patients and their families who have had to endure this rare cancer. We should also acknowledge the many clinicians and companies that have worked tirelessly to identify effective therapies

Just back from ASCO. So good to be 'in the room where it happens'... Some exciting data although perhaps not the extent of breakthroughs of yesteryear... but make no mistake those times are coming at breakneck speed. Like our patients, we await with baited breath

Wonderful to celebrate International Clinical Trials day yesterday. The ACTA Award ceremony highlighted the enormous contributions that clinical trials make to the health and wealth of society, only possible because of the commitment of so many people across the community

Yesterday ACTA meet with pharma, State reps and CROs interested in improving clinical trials in Australia. Lots of great ideas were shared, many of which will help make the clinical trial sector a lot more efficient. Much to be done but we'll all be the better for for it.

Stephen Duckett has nailed it. Even with a universal health system, there are still inequities in health outcomes in Australia. Unvaccinated people should not have to pay for COVID related health expenses- health care is a right not a privilege ,The Conversation - Australia + New Zealand

Listening to Chair of PBAC discuss models of HTA. Concerns about disinvestment need to be 'put to bed'. These can be best dealt with when new, high cost drugs are provided through CQRs. This process will be a win-win, for patients, Govt. and industry.

Prof. Ian Frazer has summarised the substantial contribution the MRFF has made to clinical trials in Australia. With the imminent evaluation of outcomes, it will be be critical to understand the 'return on investment' to help direct future strategies

Wonderful to be part of the plenary panel celebrating 30 year history of the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG). Whilst much has been achieved, with the depth of talent within the Group, and partnership with consumers the future is boundless

care webinar highlights the fact that rationing access to drugs is alive and well in Australia. We have to do better and allow interim access to novel treatments for patients if PBAC is uncertain of the actual cost:benefit of new treatments. Rare Cancers Australia
