Trying out Bluesky as this place has become increasingly sad and Elon-ified. Come join! Seems to me that more and more reputable accounts are migrating, especially post election. Same handle .bsky.social

Incredibly hyped and grateful!! Thankful for awesome teammates Cole Jacobson Jonathan Pipping & for Michael Lopez Tom Bliss & NFL for hosting!! A remarkable & fun competition, a real bright spot & cornerstone of sports analytics! Very impressed with this year’s entries.

It's really cool that Tom Brady got to be there for the Eagles' two Super Bowl wins! He might be a good luck charm. Have a great night!

Sam Gershman writes beautifully about how theory-free neuroscience prevents the field from reaching its promise. Beautiful and true. Most folks do not test hypotheses. Running a NHST does not a hypothesis make. thetransmitter.org/theoretical-ne…

If you are a neuroscientist working in pretty much any area you definitely need the content of the CN course, and for many corners of neuro you also need the content of the DL course. Both of which are particularly true if you are an experimentalist.

There are two kinds of statisticians: those who like telling other people they're wrong, and those who don't talk at all

The purpose of the deportations we have been seeing has not been to fight antisemitism, but rather to use antisemitism as a beachhead to eventually do away with foreign students altogether, using Jews as a pretext for a non-Jewish political agenda.

So I am leading this group building great teaching materials for scientific rigor (C4R.io). Their first unit is really coming together and I will teach it (Monday, April 21, 2025, 12:00 -1:00pm EST) to see how well it works. Join us: forms.monday.com/forms/7d978e36…

great thread overall, but particularly agree with this point that paper should be partly evaluated based on how easy it is to understand them (some conferences have "clarity", which I think is the same but controlling a bit for the complexity of the topic)

I have seen folks waste so much time by not properly planning research. Missed literature, missing controls, ignored hypotheses, etc. Lack of planning also produces bad science (e.g. analysis until significant). So I am writing an app. Looking for feedback.

My lab was totally destroyed tonight by an Iranian missile. Nobody was hurt. Flies, plasmids, cells, equipment - all gone. Heart breaking. If during the course of the past 16 years, you have received something from my lab - please keep them safe.
