Feel a bit for David Coote there. 21 grown men completely incapable of controlling their emotion (Mee gets a pass as he was already gone) and yet he inevitably will receive all the abuse for it.

I do find it particularly amusing when fans say “players have a right to complain when the ref gets X wrong”. No they don’t. Whether a decision is correct or not does not permit any form of abuse or dissent.

Think this would divide a room of refs and fans alike. For me (with the benefit of several angles and replays) it’s 🟨. But I can absolutely see the argue for 🟥

Think the ref could have handled it better, but that coach knows exactly what he’s doing. Deliberate sly digs delivered in a calm tone so the ref can’t book him for being aggressive. Knows what he’s doing, and the ref has clearly had enough of it.

Question from today: An attacker enters the penalty area, is fouled by the defender but maintains control of the ball and is now presented with a clear goal-scoring opportunity, but misses the target (opportunity was gained by play continuing). What do you give as a referee?

Interesting responses to this so far. At the time, I deemed it an advantage to the attacking team but did not bring it back for the penalty after the clear goal-scoring opportunity was not converted. LOTG is quite unclear about advantages so wanted to see the general consensus!

Hoping to get some more games in before the end of the season, but suffering a heel injury (whilst playing football, not even refereeing!) has put a spanner in that plan. Fingers crossed I can get back out there before summer🤞

Most telling that none of his teammates looked remotely surprised when that red was given. Loose cannon, lost his head, think he’s an unpopular man in that dressing room now…

A long time since I’ve posted on this account, but no time better than after my first game of the season! Enjoyed getting back out there after niggling injury ended last season prematurely, and after a football-free summer I certainly felt rusty! One down, many to come 👊

Quick poll, inspired by something I was told by a disgruntled substitute after a decision. Is it acceptable to use insulting homophobic slurs if the level of football is “only Sunday league stop being a busybody”? The above is verbatim.

Fellow refs/anyone with knowledge of La Liga/Spanish FA sanctioning lengths - is this correct? I’m only familiar with UK sanctions of which in most leagues serious foul play usually results in a 3-match ban. Is this different in Spain? This looks like clear SFP to me.

Rather enjoyed a player’s excuse yesterday for a pushing foul whilst contesting a header “ref it’s not a foul cos I pushed him with one hand not two” Must have missed that update to the Laws! 🤣

Had arguably one of my biggest games of a (reasonably) fledgling officiating career today. Very tough game, plenty of fire in both teams, but felt I handled it really well and was told as such by people of both sides. Also set a new distance record for a game, proud of that too!

Lots of disappointing punditry out there at the moment but this is excellent. Clearly highlights the first action being a red card DOGSO offence therefore making the second action, which was an attempt to play the ball, irrelevant to the decision. Great segment.

Feel for Sian Massey-Ellis there. The directive to delay raising the flag does come with the benefit of allowing goals to be scored that may have been incorrectly ruled out otherwise due to human error, but it can run the risk of injury. Rarely happens but that’s one where it did
