💥 Families are at breaking point. It is an emergency when people cannot afford essential items like food, baby formula and sanitary products. We have been driving around Westminster asking Keir Starmer to take urgent action against hardship. Have you spotted our van?

Renters Rights Bill has just been published, some initial thoughts below 👇 Great that: - abolishing S21 will apply to new & existing tenancies - landlords can't accept rents higher than the advertised price (no bidding wars) - notice periods doubled to 4 months for most grounds

It's important that it's clear for both tenants & landlords what rents can be increased by each year - rather than it being ambiguous and difficult to question. Unaffordable rent increases can mean tenants having to move out (a potential backdoor eviction) so we must get it right

Helping renters keep their homes and not have prices bid up is the right thing to do when homelessness numbers are soaring, temp accommodation numbers are at record highs, 1 million low income renters pay at least half their income on rent, and 1.8m are going without essentials

The Renters Rights bill has had its first reading today and marks a big improvement. Including: A quick end to S21 Notice periods extended in most cases to 4 months. A 12 month period of protection from no fault evictions. A ban on rental bidding. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

After finishing his book 'Resisting AI', I was excited when danmcquillan (@[email protected]) agreed to write an essay as part of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation collection on AI and public policymaking. His contribution takes a different stance from many other writers in this series.🧵1/3 jrf.org.uk/ai-for-public-…
