For a while now, Laura Dee @lauradee.bsky.social and I have been working on a guide to introduce Ecologists to causal inference tools for observational data that has problematic unobserved confounding variables lurking in the background. And now it's up as a preprint! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Really nice paper by a bunch of star ecologists - striking that the best cougar habitat is in the east where they have been extirpated. Come on back kitty kitty! Kathy Zeller, PhD 🐾

Super proud of Macalester College alum in my lab, (TL) Zoe Lowe, presenting our work on carnivore interactions in Yellowstone at #ASMBoulder @MammalMeetings 🐺🦊🐾 keep an eye out for this rising rockstar!! 🤩 Huge shoutout to all collaborators/coauthors 🙏🏽 📸 shared with permission

Happy and proud to share that the last paper from my dissertation, “White-tailed deer population dynamics in a multi-predator landscape shaped by humans,” is published in Ecological Applications 🦌🐺🌲👩🌾 Reach out if you’d like a copy, and follow along for a 🧵 doi.org/10.1002/eap.30…

Super cool work on animal activity pattern modelling by Fabiola Iannarilli The International Statistical Ecology Conference Looking forward to the "how-to" for the hierarchical activity modelling John Fieberg @science_action Martin Wikelski #statisticalecology #models #AcademicTwitter

Important new paper from Brenna J Cassidy et al. shows that hunting outside the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park in Montana adds to, rather than replaces, other sources of mortality for wolves primarily living in Yellowstone NP & Wyoming. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/13…

Colleagues from 🇨🇦 have just published a response in Applied Ecol. Resources|Ecol. Solutions & Evidence to our 2014 Journal of Applied Ecology paper showing that our method is flawed & systematically underestimates abundance. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/26…

📢new preprint📢 Co-led by the awesome Wes Binder & Jack Rabe 🐺🐾 and featuring amazing researchers from my lab+Yellowstone group, we delve into the unique ‘benefits & burdens’ for mesos from apex carnivores in Yellowstone 🦊🐺 Cameras, collars, observations! We have it all 📷🛰️📊⬇️
