I spend most of my free time at the moment crawling around in a coral reef that died 340 million years ago. oceans come and go. the ruins are beautiful and we have a lot to learn from them. but also incredibly sad.

bleaching occurs when coral gets heat stressed and ejects the tiny marine algae zooxanthellae, that live in its tissue and give most of its colour and energy. without zooxanthellae, coral starves and its bone-white calcium skeleton becomes visible theguardian.com/environment/20…
