Thinking about elevators in video games.... What are early uses? Donkey Kong comes to mind immediately. What other examples of elevators that you associate with games? Myst was the first one I thought of.... Police Quest sketch & Elevator Action from The Strong Museum holdings

Love this German dollhouse from 1900 known as the Elevator House, whose central feature is (surprise, surprise) a working elavator. Here in collections at The Strong Museum

Visualizing a virtual world. MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) was text-based, but the locales were deliberately mapped out by creators Roy Trubshaw and Richard Bartle. A few concept sketches coupled with a later full map printed in a magazine.

Stephen Epstein shaped coin-op history through his decades running the Broadway Arcade in New York City, so it's wonderful that The Strong Museum is preserving that history for anyone interested in the history of pinball, arcade games, coin ops, etc. museumofplay.org/press-release/…

Calling all Apple II gamesters... Our library team at The Strong Museum annually catalogs thousands of new trade catalogs and various other pieces of ephemera that provide crucial documentation of the history of play. This press release for a 1983 game from Broderbund caught my eye.

We're honored to preserve the papers of Michael and Muffy Berlyn here at The Strong Museum. They're an important part of video game history, and my latest blog explores them: museumofplay.org/blog/the-stori…

Know someone who loves to repair and maintain arcade games and pinball machines? We're hiring an arcade and pinball technician to join The Strong's conservation team: workforcenow.adp.com/mascsr/default…

I am hearing the sad news that the artist Rodger MacGowan just passed away. His legendary work adorns many wargame covers, both in the USA and Japan. I had a number of very nice interactions with him here on Twitter and he will certainly be missed.

Playful Putters, our newest exhibit at The Strong Museum, celebrates a century of people's love of miniature golf. Featuring a playable 9-hole course, it's a lot of fun! As usual, it shows our exhibits team's usual high-level of craftsmanship. It's open through Labor Day.

We were honored that Steve Wiebe, former two-time world champion at Donkey Kong, stopped by the museum recently to play the world’s largest playable version!

Our The Strong Museum library recently added a copy of Martin Gardner's 1939 book Mathematical Puzzles & Diversions that includes a chapter on the Game of Hex (separately invented by Piet Hein & John Nash). I discussed the history of hex spaces in games here: museumofplay.org/blog/hex-marks…
