last week, at my favorite restaurant, the waiter asked "how's the weather out there" and my brain couldn't decide between "awful" and "terrible," so my mouth just said "terri-ful" and not an hour has since gone by that i haven't thought about that.

Someone recently asked me if I romanticize my life. How would I know? I’m a poet—I can’t help but feel romantic about my life, my little apartment, my fat yellow cat, my soft-hearted lover, the relentless rain that lushens everything, my unremarkable body, my hungry poems.

recently i saw a quote that said "make art with friends," but I misread it as "make friends with art" and honestly i like my read better. find a way to love what you create. champion others who make cool shit. befriend art.

I recently mistyped writing as “writhing” and my god isn’t that more accurate.

Today I was thinking about what photos our cats would take of us when they found us cute or funny or weird. I’d really love to see those photos.

When I was a kid, I had a slight stutter when I was particularly anxious (which was almost always). Yet, on the page, I was unwavering. Poetry is such a mercy for the shy.
