I used to go to 20 Pirates games a year just because I love baseball and love PNC Park. I haven’t gone to a game this year and I haven’t even considered going. And I bet I’m not the only one. What a disgraceful organization.

The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs is always 100 times better than the first round of the NBA playoffs. I'm not getting into an NHL/NBA debate. People have their preferences. But it always amazing me how much more compelling the first round of the NHL postseason is.

The Penguins are searching for a new coach. There are only 32 of these jobs in the world, so, make no mistake, it’s a job people will want. But is being head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins still one of the premiere NHL jobs? I analyzed: nytimes.com/athletic/63370…

The Pirates have scored five runs in their past five games, have gone 2-9 in their last 11 games and, despite playing in one of baseball’s worst divisions, are already 10 1/2 games out of first place. At 12-26, their season is over. It’s only May 7. Truly pathetic.

The Cup has been awarded 19 times since the ‘05 lockout. On 15 of those occasions, it’s been won by a team with a “recycled” head coach. Just because certain coaches have bounced from team to team doesn’t mean they’re the wrong coach … like Rick Tocchet: nytimes.com/athletic/63420…
