Ripping power from communities to appease developers will build resentment - not affordable homes. Developers will continue to prioritise profits over public need. We need a left alternative: democratic, sustainable development with councils in the driver's seat.

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill offers plenty of deregulatory carrot for developers – but no stick. I’m proposing: • Penalties for developers who sit on land after gaining planning permission. • Powers for councils to block developers that repeatedly fail to build.

One year on and yellow rattle now grows across all 2 hectares of these Liverpool City Council meadows!! This important ecosystem engineer temporarily parasitises grasses, leaving more room for wildflowers to grow. Can’t wait to see these grasslands transform over the next few years 😍🌱

Not seen in this part of northwest England for over 50 years - it was amaze to find Common Cow-wheat (Melampyrum pratense)! Unlike its cousin, yellow rattle, this beastie doesn’t parasitise the roots of grasses. Instead, it goes for woody plants, including oaks 😍🌱

A quick reminder that gardens can make such important spaces for biodiversity. 4 years on and things have come quite a way for me… - over 30 marsh and spotted orchids ✅ - rocketing wildflower species richness ✅ - huge abundance of pollinators and other invertebrates ✅

Approximately 15sqm, the only area managed by Riverside Group allowed to grow over summer, and they’ve caved in and decimated it. The amount of time & energy it’s taken for Riverside Group to leave this patch alone, from community petitions to seed application, has been massive 🫩🌱

I’m heartbroken to hear that the amazing community campaigner Sara Venn 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ she/her has died yesterday. Sara was one of the first people that supported me and Friends of the Western Slopes 🍃💚🍃 on this app. She was kind and a badass who wasn’t afraid to call out assholes. She will be so sorely missed. 💔
