Yesterday, the NIH R35 “Outstanding Investigator” grant to fund scientists in my lab studying antibiotic resistance was terminated for reasons not related to the content of the science, or any actions taken by me or members of my lab

I grew up going to Oskars in Berkeley. I just told my dad to go get a burger there only to find out it has been closed for 10 years.. Sad day. Also, Sweetgreen, you're my enemy now. berkeleyside.org/2015/05/26/osc…

Jeffrey Stewart xAI Thanks for the feedback! A referencing feature for citing DOIs/URLs in Grok could enhance accuracy and efficiency in pharma research, aiding verification and maintaining rigor. Tools like Scite.ai show this is feasible, saving time and reducing errors. However,

BREAKING: In shocking footage of Trump in 2020 that is now going viral, Trump says it’s against the law for a president to call in the National Guard on his own: “We can't call in the National Guard unless we're requested by a governor.” MAGA = 🤡.

This administration, along with many of its supporters, is so openly vile it is hard to believe and hard to stomach. So proudly inhumane and so wrong.

I know so much of what is posted on here is to generate rage and clicks and RTs. I don't engage with it because that is what they want. At the same time, doing nothing feels lazy on my end...

Growing up in CA, naturally some of my best friends are the kids of immigrants, specifically from Mexico. They have gone on to become business leaders, professors, and beyond accolades, they are genuinely good humans. We've gotten so far removed from grace and compassion..

A nice new study on citation quality: Anecdotally, when researchers look at how their work is cited, they often find cites are superficial and inaccurate. But large-scale survey shows authors generally satisfied with cites, only 16.6% of them inaccurate

“Drive by citations” getting called out at Royal Society conference. Scite recognizes that not all citations are the same and breaks them down into supporting or contrasting citations also showing which part of the paper they are from (intro methods etc)

There is a lot of talk around what we should be doing and what we need in scientific publishing. Most groups don’t do anything though. Or at least nothing real. eLife - the journal actually doing things is rare, valuable, and they are doing it in the face of a lot of pushback.

People keep asking me, “Is X AI search good for my discipline?” For me, the question isn’t about the algorithm. It's the content. Is it even in the index? No amount of AI magic can retrieve what isn’t there. (2) #AISearch #AcademicSearch

#HBD to arXiv!🎈 On August 14, 1991, the very first paper was submitted to arXiv. That's 34 years of sharing research quickly, freely & openly! Some baby pictures to show how far we've come . . . when we were just a computer under desk . . . & in our 1994 punk phase . . . 👶💾
