My latest at Quanta Magazine is the story of a new class of celestial objects now emerging from the cosmic shadows: starless clumps of pure dark matter. quantamagazine.org/in-a-monster-s… The scientific literature calls these "subhaloes." I think they need a cooler name. Any suggestions?

Today is publication day for Lisa Kaltenegger lovely new book "Alien Earths" Congratulations! Definitely a needed addition to everyone's "what's happening in astrobiology" library.
I had seen great reviews of Our Moon by Rebecca 🌕 Boyle Random House Group, but by the book's middle, a history-of-ideas adventure from Mesopotamia to Kepler, I realized how even that praise sells short how skillful and genre-smashing it is. A truly cosmic tale by a master storyteller.

Either preorder or run to get Becoming Earth by Ferris Jabr out next week, which I was lucky to read early. Just peak-of-powers science writing: a globetrotting adventure across a globe that breathes and bleeds and changes under each footfall. penguinrandomhouse.com/books/623907/b…
I am in disbelief - thank you so much National Book Foundation and this year’s judges for including OUR MOON. Incredibly proud to be on this list!! 🌕 (Internal dialogue sneak peek: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!)
Congrats to Ben Goldfarb on another excellent prize nod for CROSSINGS, now out in paperback.
