You can build reliable grids with a suite of generation technologies, wind & sun primary among them, if you also build some new power lines, make better use of existing lines, develop demand-side options, & especially *change utility incentives*. It's doable.

Our community is stronger because folks like Rep. Rob Johnson are working day in and day out to make it a better place. We need him in the Iowa legislature working for us.

12 partner groups joined IEC in a petition to the EPA to take emergency action on nitrate in drinking water. "We can no longer stand by as state officials cover their eyes and plug their noses to the massive amounts of manure contaminating our waterways," says IEC's Alicia Vasto.

Time to retire the Neal plants in Sioux City - “We know that these plants are massive carbon polluters. They’re impacting the climate, but on a local level, they are having an immediate and significant impact on the health of the communities surrounding these plants”

It’s not complicated. We should protect residents and visitors from predatory towing practices. desmoinesregister.com/story/news/202… via Des Moines Register

Nitrate pollution from upstream ag runoff is straining water works ability to meet Safe Drinking Water standards. And those standards are likely not sufficiently protective given the cancer linkage with lower levels of nitrate.

To quote ELPC's Josh Mandelbaum: “Outdated verification rules allowed MidAmerican to mislead the public, claiming 100% renewable energy while operating a large, polluting coal fleet. Iowa Utilities Commission shows leadership by refusing to approve MidAmerican’s claims.” elpc.org/news/iowa-regu…

Now is the time for local governments to step up and lead on climate action. The City Manger’s decision made behind closed doors is wrong. I’ll work with my colleagues on the Council to reverse it. desmoinesregister.com/story/news/loc…

The City Manager should reinstate the sustainability office to continue important climate work and pursue available outside funding. Cutting Des Moines' sustainability office is irresponsible | Opinion desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/…

Housing is critical to creating a community that works for everyone. Our housing plan should help our residents find housing that meets their needs at a price they can afford. We can’t do that if most of our efforts on housing are designed to raise existing property values.

Just found my awesome city council representative at my door, sharing ideas with constituents. He’s on our ballots this November. And you ought to vote for him if you’re in his district.

Water quality is a major issue facing our community. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Central Iowa Source Water Research Assessment. Thanks to the The Harkin Institute for making this important work more accessible.

You can’t make this up - as the Des Moines metro was in the midst of its first ever lawn watering ban because of high nitrates, the Trump admin said the waters weren’t impaired. You can’t solve a problem if you refuse to acknowledge it. desmoinesregister.com/story/news/hea… via Des Moines Register
