Congratulations to all new Chartered Membership recipients who received their Membership Certificates at Bastwick Street today. Great to see so many new members there with supporting families friends.
Excellent series of presentations by Dr. Hannah Fry on BBC Royal Institution Lectures from the concept of uncertainty in measurements to the insatiable appetite for data and data analytics
All engineers take a bow this week on national engineering week in the US for their continuing contribution to the welfare of society. The challenges we face with climate change will need all our inputs but we are capable of finding solutions when we all collaborate.
We salute all of our colleagues across all the global engineering professions who are giving of their expertise in fighting this covid 19 pandemic. This is truly a world wide response of unprecedented collaboration.
Just saw ISS pass through the night Irish sky. A fantastic engineering achievement involving many disciplines. Would that we might apply the same energy and collaboration to many of the world's other issues.
Honoured to receive the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award at the CERAI Conference. A fantastic and expertly organised conference. A great legacy from the 1995 Concrete Practice in Ireland when the bi-annual event was proposed. If I recall correctly, CPI included Tom Duggan,
Sean de Courcy, Simon Perry and others. They set a fantastic idea in progress and this week's event is a true legacy of their memory. Thanks to all involved in organising the event.
Great address from Mike Cook in his Gold Medal Address to the Institution of Structural Engineers. Much to consider for all the engineering professions in planning for the future.
On todau, tree day, take time to admire the splendour of these magnificent "structures" in their many different autumnal colours or as WB Yeats put it "in their autumn beauty".
Honoured to be conferred with Fellowship of Engineers Ireland (FIEI) at their on line conferring. This would not have happened without the support of family, many colleagues and friends over more than 40 years from whom I have learned so much and to whom I so grateful.
Just cleaning up around the garden and I see we have some snow drops peeping up and some buds starting to form on cherry blossoms. In these terrible times, the continued cycle of nature is our great hope and saviour.
Great sightings of the ISS crossing the evening twilight sky these past few evenings. A truly international example of collaboration across all engineering disciplines and many countries.
Just saw the Rusian NAUKA laboratory module on its way to rendezvous with the ISS pass over in the night sky. Docking on July 29th. Incredible technology.
Best wishes to all candidates taking the Institution of Structural Engineers' Chartered Membership and Associated Membership examinations on Monday 27th.
