Interesting to see some basic demand theory applied to tariff choices. So… What’s wrong with it? Used in isolation on a single small trading partner the formula makes some sense. But if applied widely to many non trivial ones it does not. 1/2

My latest for farmdoc daily: How big is the 2025 US corn crop? Or at least, how much of a yield increase is the market currently pricing in to new-crop futures prices? It might not be six bushels more than current USDA estimates, but it's close. farmdocdaily.illinois.edu/2025/07/the-co…

My latest for @farmdocdaily: Are there really 97.3 million US corn acres this year? Jason Franken and I use acreage enrolled in USDA Farm Service Agency farm programs to say yes. If anything, the USDA WASDE guess from last week is a conservative one. farmdocdaily.illinois.edu/2025/08/yes-th…

I got to speak to an extraordinary group of state + provincial legislators at the International Legislators Forum in Deadwood, SD: agree.org/2025-internati… I talked about ongoing tariff shock and impacts on agricultural commodity trade. Hard to understate the size of this change.

over 50% of respondents say there are no local storage issues for them.... the messaging you're getting from the media of a crisis and farmers being in panic mode is bs there are pockets of the Belt with issues, yes, there is every year
