Ive read many books on this: the bombing of Japan by the US effectively ended WWII entirely. The bombings pushed Emperor Hirohito to break the deadlock within the Japanese War Council and agree to the terms of the Potsdam Declaration, leading to Japan's surrender on Aug 15, 1945
