"Essentially, Scholz admitted that there are some regulations that are so complex that no one really understands them anymore. But trying to simplify them just isn't worth the effort." #germany #rules #bureaucracy #paperwork thegermanreview.de/p/bureaucracy-…

Germany’s armed forces are in a dismal state. But convincing German society that it also needs to adapt to the new reality may well be the more challenging task. thegermanreview.de/p/should-germa…

On a ‘pet’ hate of mine: #Dog owners in northern Italy now have to give DNA swabs from their pouches to authorities. Dog poo found on the street is then compared against this data bank and owners face big fines. A solution for #Berlin’s sh*t strewn streets… any thoughts?

Some opponents are calling for the #AfD to be banned. Is making a party verboten really that simple? And, would banning the second most popular in the country really be a democratic solution? #germany thegermanreview.de/p/is-now-the-t…

It may sound crazy to suggest a future without trains. But in Germany they are a massive drain on public finances. Are there new technologies that would organise transport more efficiently and at a lower cost? #transport #trains #germany #rail thegermanreview.de/p/german-rail-…

thegermanreview.de/p/what-will-th… The architecture of the anti-AfD firewall is changing. The protests make the structure of the wall stronger and higher. But they also force the old parties ever closer together inside it. #afd #germany

thegermanreview.de/p/the-new-face… A brutal assault on a Jewish student in #Berlin tells us a lot about the state of anti-Semitism in #Germany today. In particular, its aftermath shows how some people are trying to twist the story to pin the blame on the Jew.

thegermanreview.de/p/time-to-buil… “In a comic irony, support for keeping nuclear bombs in #Germany was strongest among voters for the Green party, which grew out of the anti-war and anti-nuclear protests of the 1970s.”

Last month, Germany’s parliament passed a law that will see #cannabis partially legalised starting in April. Anti-prohibition campaigners are haling it as a victory, but the law won’t do enough to tackle the damage done by prohibition. Here’s why: thegermanreview.de/p/legalise-it-…

Some Germans want to make their language less formal. Others insist on old-fashioned politeness. The result is a minefield of potential misunderstandings. How to upset a German open.substack.com/pub/germanrevi…

thegermanreview.de/p/bavaria-so-b… #Bavaria has chosen its own path in #Germany - one that leads to more than the occasional political drama.

thegermanreview.de/p/the-house-of… How are coalition negotiations in Thuringia and Saxony shaping up… and what do they have to do with an arranged marriage?

thegermanreview.de/p/vital-medici… German pharmacies are running short on antibiotics and painkillers. The country once know as “the world’s pharmacy” is increasingly reliant on Asia for supplies of basic medicines… which is turning into a problem.

thegermanreview.de/p/will-the-mad… A court came to a damning conclusion this month about the role of the media in one of the most infamous missing person’s cases in the world. But was the judge’s criticism fair?

open.substack.com/pub/germanrevi… Unlike most major economies, Germany hasn’t run up heft debts to fund the new trend to protectionism. A good idea… or is Germany missing the train?

thegermanreview.de/p/russia-west-… The question of whether #Germany should belong to the West was settled 60 years ago. Now though, mainstream politicians are once again coming under attack for being "vassals" of America.
