Hands-on, Minds-on math KanataHighlands. Students love applying their new fraction learning to different math centers!



Open number lines engage students in learning about proper & improper fractions, mixed numbers and equivalent decimals. They provoked a range of higher order questioning from students and resulted in deeper learning compared to a regular worksheet KanataHighlands

How many fractions can you see? Our answers started slow (and sleepy) and ended up as āINFINITE!ā with Ss bursting excitedly with unique ideas and discussions (ex. 0/7 circles are blue!) KanataHighlands


Ss KanataHighlands were āhands-on, minds-onā when ordering fractions! Loved hearing all the math reasoning and discussion. Peer learning is alive and well!


Students enjoyed using photo prompts to write their ābestā sentences. Next, they analyzed why these sentences were great (metacognition). Iām amazed by their critical and creative thinking! KanataHighlands
