An interesting couple of weeks.. A Brushcutter course to assist with the implementation of nest fences, reducing predation for ground nesting Curlew on behalf of WWT Conservation and a Grass ID course to more accurately map Gloucestershire for @Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust HabiMap programme.

Bank holiday spent bat surveying with plenty of ringing, including my first experience of ringing pulli. All ringed under license. #ecology #ornithology #birding

We are nearing the end of #SAVCurlews 2023! It's been a great season for collecting data with 27 nesting attempts followed. However, productivity remains very low. Thanks to all who have assisted our work this year & especially the farmers who we work with. More work to be done!

Watch! A northern harrier catches up to a short-eared owl, makes it drop the small rodent (vole) it was carrying, and catches the falling prey before it hits the ground. 📽 by Erik Durnall

Huge win for our seabirds! All Scottish waters and the English North Sea are now CLOSED to industrial sandeel trawling. That means more fish for seabird beaks. After a quarter century of campaigning, we're delighted GOV.UK and Scottish Government have put these closures in place.

Have you seen or heard a curlew on Dartmoor National Park? The Dartmoor Curlew Project is helping to monitor the last remaining curlew population on Dartmoor and would like to know if you have seen any. If you have, please get in touch at ‘[email protected]’. Thank you

A few days spent with the SAV team tracking their radio-tagged chicks in preparation for post-release monitoring of our Headstarted curlew. Thanks to Kane Brides, Daniel Gornall & Andy Scott for showing me the ropes!
