The public trust museums to protect access to world-class culture 🏛️ That’s why we have joined nine other sector bodies in signing an updated joint statement on how we safeguard these collections for future generations by avoiding unethical disposal.

Pleased to reveal my new collab with Punks & Chancers! We’ve joined together to support the protest against proposed library cuts across Brum. The design is based on my photo of a library sign at Selly Oak Library. All profits will go to Brum Library Zine punksandchancers.co.uk/collections/fr…

Community Asset Transfer - all you need to know! The Neighbourhood Development & Support Unit (NDSU) already have a website dedicated to it. And #SaveBirmingham's campaign is supported by experts in the field, so we can help in exploring options. 🔗 savebirmingham.org/news/community…

Jordan The better question is if the Council has such a large collection, why is only 1% on display. We could do with something like the Rotterdam depot, which also then create a new revenue stream: boijmans.nl/en/depot

I’m disgusted by the actions of the BBC here. This crosses the line from unbiased investigative journalism into a dirty hit-piece on value of the arts. It’s sinister and leading. This is exactly why BCC didn’t want to publicise the ‘value’ of their art collection.

This is a revolting headline. The civic art collection is an historic public good, not a cash asset. If anything, the collection should be nationalised.

Nobody would dare to suggest to London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Glasgow that they sell off their artworks. At the core of this there is this distain for Birmingham and that we don’t deserve culture because we’re a largely working class city still.

🟦 i’m not squeamish about talking finances and budgets by PUR-LEASE! this is the world’s greatest pre-Raphaelite collection in the world you’re talking about — have some RESPECT!

The UK has a budget deficit of £120bn but I don’t see the BBC suggesting we flog everything in the National Portrait Gallery.

BBC Midlands They don’t ‘own’ the art. They hold it in trust, for the public. That’s not an asset for them to use, it’s a service for the public to benefit from.

“ It would be totally wrong to sell it.” Well, quite, which is why nobody has suggested doing so. And is why that article’s headline is poor at best.
