A big week in South Carolina with 1,000 new jobs and $1.2 billion in new capital investment announced!

2023 was the second-best year for economic development in state history, with $9.22 billion in new capital investment and more than 14,000 new jobs announced!   Once again, South Carolina has proven that it is among the best places in the world to do business.

Secretary Hall will be remembered as one of the greatest transportation secretaries in state history. Whether responding to natural disasters or spearheading transformative infrastructure projects, she has consistently delivered for the people of South Carolina.

As more people and businesses move to our state, we must protect our farmlands from overdevelopment. Yesterday, I signed a bill that provides farmers with a cost-effective option to keep their farms and ensure that our state's most valuable lands aren't lost forever.

With more than 220 German businesses in South Carolina, Germany is our top export partner. Yesterday, I joined the German American Chamber of Commerce to discuss the many benefits of doing business in South Carolina and to help recruit even more jobs and investment to our state.

South Carolina continues to make significant progress in upgrading our interstates and replacing our state’s aging bridges.   Yesterday, I joined with Lindsey Graham and James E. Clyburn to celebrate a $175 million grant to replace four bridges on I-95 over Lake Marion.

Today’s FEMA major disaster declaration was the first wave. More counties will be added as more information is gathered. We will continue to help all South Carolinians get the support they need.

In South Carolina, we are known for our resilience and the power of our spirit. Our communities have come together, and now we are all working hand-in-hand to get things back to normal. Together, we will come out even stronger.

Last night, I spoke with Governor McMaster and members of the South Carolina delegation about our disaster relief efforts. I appreciate the Governor’s update and will continue working with my colleagues to secure essential resources for those devastated by this fall’s storms.
