NY Gov. Hochul, speaking with the press, says she spoke with the Dept. of State and is under the impression that the Chinese consul general has been removed, though she didn't have many details when pressed.

Dept. of State spokesperson Matthew Miller just said the China consul general was *not* removed or expelled. Instead, the consul general reached the end of their rotation in August, Miller said.

Gov. Hochul insinuated the China consul general was ousted. The State Dept. says that wasn't the case -- his term was up. The Chinese consulate says ... he's still performing his duties. The latest WTF moment in a couple days filled with them: gothamist.com/news/linda-sun…

A coda to this: The Chinese consulate just posted a press release today that still refers to Huang Ping as "consul general," with photos it claims are him performing official duties on Sept. 3. The Western Regional OTB board just passed a motion to offer Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown a contract to serve as the public benefit corporations next president and CEO.

The ESPN post-match interviewer has REALLY been pushing the "Pegula's from New York! She rides the subway!" angle. But as Hochul alludes to here ... Pegula was born in Buffalo. (Which *does* have a subway, btw!!)
