I thank the JEP leader writer & those States members who supported my Proposition yesterday to pay ministers more than backbenchers. It is a shame the opportunity was missed. As more than one member whispered to me, the real reason it fell was that it is too close to an election.

I went out to see the St Brieuc wind farm up close a few days ago. Or as close as regulations allow. Impressive. Using a big telephoto from a moving boat is never a recipe for stable shots, but still, it gives an impression of what it's like.

Huge, huge congratulations to Lindsay de Sausmarez for topping the poll in Guernsey. Her commitment to the environment is inspiring, and voters clearly liked her level headed approach. I enjoyed working with her very much when I was Minister for Environment.

Breaking news: Gov has confirmed that the bomb threat that led to evacuation of the airport on March 5th was received by Ports the night before, but because it was out of hours, no one saw it until the morning. Huge potential security implications.

Further to my previous email regarding the airport bomb scare not being spotted for many hours, here is a blog post that goes into the issues in more detail jonathanrenouf.je/2025/06/25/the…

I’m exceptionally disappointed that members voted - after almost a whole day of debate - to start the whole debate all over again in Sept. The reasons were spurious; many were simply finding another way to try & stop the proposals. High farce.

Rather pitifully the Council of Ministers voted against the amendment not because it would make the Proposition worse but because it would make it better! Had the amendment passed they'd have had little excuse to vote against the Proposition. Now they can happily vote against.

jonathanrenouf.je/2025/07/11/min… Reflections on the disintegration of ministerial unity over tenancy reforms. The CM Dep. Lyndon Farnham objected to my description of ministers being "at war", but I stand by it (whilst acknowledging the CM's skill at holding his govt together.)

Rising sea temperatures are one of the clearest signs of climate change in Jersey. Not only are they rising, but the rate of increase is increasing. Good news for swimmers, but not so good for eco-systems.

bailiwickexpress.com/news/jersey-jo… V good to see the CM Dep. Lyndon Farnham express in strong terms his condemnation of the Israeli treatment of civilians in Gaza. Israel's actions go way beyond legitimate self defence & as the letter says raise qu's about breaches of the genocide convention.

I continue to hear worrying stories about the situation at the airport. There have been a string of senior leadership departures over the last 9 months. Insiders talk of a poor working atmosphere. This is a gov owned company, so I hope ministers are asking serious questions.

bailiwickexpress.com/news/considera… The Health Minister's statement makes it clear we're being lined up to pay more for less. A tough sell, but credit at least for honesty. We need an honest conversation about what kind of health service we want & how much we are prepared to pay.

See this Instagram post by @timcraggstudio instagram.com/p/DNGa0Voi5di/… I was lucky enough to work with genius DOP Tim Cragg, and this podcast captures some of the energy & commitment he brings to his projects. Worth a listen for anyone who wants to understand the creative process.
