The 12S MiFish-U primers are becoming standard for #eDNA #metabarcoding. Yet,~90% of fish species have a mismatch in the 2nd position of the fwd primer. Ran quick comparison. Similar results. Still, why use original if no empirical support for orig mismatch?

CSIRO effectively just patented all passive #eDNA sampling. This means you can't stick a sponge in the water without paying them royalties. Someone needs to challenge this. patents.google.com/patent/WO20220…

It looks like CSIRO just updated an earlier press release regarding their previous broad patent application for passive DNA collection. research.csiro.au/environomics/p…

Congratulations to the JonahVentures lab crew for our 200th Illumina run. Over this time, we've helped over 1000 clients including 250 academic and 150 government scientists. Fecals, water, dust, honey, plants, mud...viruses, bacteria, algae, insects, fish, mammals. Great job!

New paper on diet of desert bighorn sheep which @jonahventures helped with metabarcoding. Dietary composition for females depends on provisioning status. Also, desert bighorn sheep eat a lot of plants that can't taste good. frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

It just feels like the microbiological science on which we base the safety of our water supplies should not have been set when Wite-Out corrected errors in our reports.

We sequence a fair amount of #honey to reconstruct the plants from which bees have collected nectar and pollen. Here is a snapshot of this week's honey being processed. #metabarcoding

Just a preview of some of the functionality we are building into our 2nd generation JonahDNA data portal for aquatic #metabarcoding #eDNA data. Mapping. Automatic bioassessment scores. Species info. Massively scalable.

Looking for a few beta testers for our new Baleen eDNA Filtering System. Built for quick, clean collection and filtering of large volumes of oligotrophic water. Direct or via Niskin/Rosette. Lab or field.

We are embracing eDNA tech for early detection of Aquatic Invasive Species. Swift identification and efficient response for non-native threats, from fish to macro-invertebrates. Proud to partner with JonahVentures for the analysis of our samples. #GreenLakeProtection #AIS #eDNA

Worried about gators? Don't want to use a boat? We're beta-testing drone-based water collection for #environmentalDNA. 500 mL collected easily. Soon to be standard part of JonahVentures eDNA toolkit.

Did you know that if you follow EPA E. coli recommendations for recreational water contact, 36 out of 1000 swimmers are expected to get sick? The epidemiology and science behind these tests are weak, but still...why is that particular level acceptable?

We ran a long-term DNA preservation test with our JonahWater kits. For 1 month at room temperature, no significant decline in DNA concentrations. For 8 months? Just 30% decline. Always best to keep samples in the fridge when you can, but refrigeration is not required.

JonahWater Baleen eDNA filtering system is passing field tests. Super easy to sample and filter large quantities of oligotrophic water with low risk of contamination.

JonahWater Aquatic eDNA kits are sampling fish DNA in Angola. As climate continues to change, these desert rivers only increase in importance for their endemic biodiversity. Jonah Ventures is proud to help support these efforts.

@jonahventures is looking for volunteers to help beta test our new AirDNA filter systems for eDNA. If anyone thinks they have an interesting ecological test case for a few samples, contact us. We'll set you up.

#eDNA sampling getting more and more efficient! Thanks JonahVentures for sharing the Baleen eDNA Filtering System for Rachel Lasley-Rasher lab to test out in the field. Great setup and easy to use on a boat, too!
