With this crisis we have an unprecedented opportunity for the state & federal governments to join forces to fix the harmful & wicked issue that is hospital access block, a system-wide problem manifest in EDs. We must care about the sickest & most injured people who need admission

At RANZCOG - O&G Women’s health summit in Australian National Parliament House in Canberra, The Honourable Linda Burney reminds us that yesterday was National Sorry Day, the beginning of Reconciliation week, 4 years after The Uluru Statement. Salient acknowledgements. ACEM

What a great day discussing the issues of women’s health, gender & health equity, sexual & reproductive health, mental health, chronic conditions, healthy aging. Well done RANZCOG - O&G and thanks Vijay.

It’s an equity issue between electives & acutes. Tomorrow’s acute patient who will need a Tasmanian ED does not yet know that they will need healthcare & might be stuck on an ambulance ramp or an ED corridor waiting for admission ACEM #politas acem.org.au/News/July-2021…

We remain deeply concerned about the safety and welfare of Professor Maw Maw Oo (now gravely ill with covid) and other healthcare worker colleagues detained by the Myanmar military regime and request their and immediate unconditional and safe release. ACEM x.com/rcollem/status…

Whilst much of our bandwidth is currently occupied with covid it could be argued that there has never been a more important time to consider access block & its solutions.

The impact of climate change on our health & lives cannot be over-stated. We all need to do our best to mitigate the impact, particularly on indigenous people, LMICs and our Pacific neighbours.

CMC representing 9000 medical specialists across Aotearoa New Zealand encouraged by COVID-19 vaccination uptake - we must keep up the momentum if we are to protect our population, in particular Māori & Pacifica - cmc.org.nz/media/5u3bfpc4… #CMC

Covid vaccination works, is safe, is our only chance of living with this virus, and is supported by the overwhelming majority of doctors in New Zealand. When we get a few thousand signatures we will publish to the team of 5 million. Doctors who care please sign up. ACEM

Be a culturally safer clinician to all patients you care for in EDs, improve your usage of Te Reo in Aotearoa- there are resources to help you.

As Aotearoa New Zealand attempts to vaccinate as many people as possible on Super Saturday, thousands of doctors have joined forces in an open letter to say: We overwhelmingly support vaccination against Covid-19. interactives.stuff.co.nz/2021/10/doctor…

Thank you to everyone who has helped me in my presidency, what an awesome team, standing on the shoulders of giants. It has been an honour & a privilege. And so happy to be passing the batten to Clare Skinner Coral Laski - great hands to lead the College through further challenges

The only thing better than the #ICEM2022 conference this week was Emergency Physician shoes at the #ICEM2022 conference this week. Legendary. Better shoes for a better world.

This is an important health system wide issue that we all need to work together to fix. Patients all around the motu are waiting unreasonably long times to be seen due to significant overcrowding in EDs - complex patients who need admission, not just “GP patients”

This terrible situation is escalating worldwide & causing real harm to patients & staff. People are dying as a result of under-investment in acute healthcare, staff are leaving in droves. #choosingwisely #resourcestewardship ACEM International Federation for Emergency Medicine
